B4 Beach Club.
Residency in 2022, house music with the Indian Ocean in front of the booth.
In 2022 I was resident and Music Director at B4 Beach Club, on Paje Beach in Zanzibar. It was a full season, and it is one of the experiences of my career that I will never forget.
It did not start as a residency. The first time I played at B4 I was a guest. I arrived with a bag of records and a lot of curiosity, played my set with the Indian Ocean in front of me, and something clicked. The place, the team and the crowd all felt right. When they asked me to come back for the whole season, I did not need to think twice.
A full season in one place is a different kind of experience. You stop being a visitor. You wake up with the sea, you know the tides, you know when the wind comes and you know which day of the week the beach fills up. You watch the sunset from the same spot and every evening it still takes your breath away. The music starts to grow out of that routine, and the sets become part of the landscape.
At B4 I created Wonderlust, an event where several guest DJs joined me, with the beach and the Indian Ocean as the setting. Bringing friends and colleagues to play in that place was a joy. Every Wonderlust was different, but all of them had the same spirit: good music, open hearts and feet in the sand.
As Music Director, I was not only behind the decks. I thought about the whole sound of the place, from the early afternoon to the last track of the night. I worked with the team, planned the nights and made sure that the music matched the moment, soft and warm at golden hour, deeper and more rhythmic as the stars came out.
But what I will remember most are the people. The team at B4 worked hard and always with a smile. The guests came from every corner of the world, and so did the DJs who joined us. We shared long afternoons, late nights, laughs and stories. Some of those people became friends for life. It was unforgettable people in an unforgettable place, and that combination is rare.
I also have to say it clearly: I love Africa. Zanzibar gave me warmth, kindness and a sense of calm that I carry with me to this day. The island has its own rhythm, slow and generous, and it taught me to play with more patience and more joy. Every time I think about that season, I feel grateful.
The videos below show some of those moments, from my sets at B4 and Wonderlust to the Dance Criminal radio shows I recorded live from Zanzibar. If you run a beach club, a resort or a festival and you want a resident who builds the whole experience and not only the music, let's talk.
